Background & Perspective
For more than twenty years, I have worked exclusively with students in the arts and creative disciplines.
I currently serve as Co-Chair of the Visual Arts Special Interest Group for the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), and since 2004 I have presented professional development programming for counselors and educators on supporting visual and performing arts applicants through the admissions process.
My work experience includes both student-facing advising and institutional application evaluation. I understand not only how applications are constructed by students, but also how they are encountered, interpreted, and discussed within highly selective admissions environments, and how to make adjustments in consideration of narrative consistency, reader psychology, artistic presentation, and institutional priorities.
I was also a student artist myself—active in visual arts, classical piano, drama, and comedy improvisation alongside rigorous academics—and I understand firsthand the challenge of balancing serious creative practice with high academic expectations. I received my BA in Fine Art from UCLA, and my M.Ed in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs from USC... and have not yet burst into flames ;)
I am Elder Millennial born and raised in Los Angeles. Taurus parent to two funny and spirited Aries children. I like redwood forests, lilacs, muay thai, tide pools, data management, Ted Lasso, botanical gardens, Weird Al Yankovic, bodegas, nature documentaries, kimchi, Calvin and Hobbes, FC Barcelona / Taegeuk Warriors / El Tri, deserts, art supplies, farmer's markets, and Nine Inch Nails.
